Lawrence Ray Purvis

CHARLOTTE - Lawrence Ray Purvis of Charlotte, NC entered his heavenly home on December 23, 2018.  Born October 8, 1934 in Robeson County, NC, he was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys P. Faulk, step-dad, W.G. Faulk, brother, Charles Faulk, and his daughter, Patti Purvis.  He is survived by his lovely wife, Mary Lou Scott Purvis of 62 years, daughter Laura P. Barrett and her husband, Bill, son, Steve Purvis and his wife, Tammy; seven grandchildren, Blake Barrett and wife, Jana, Ashley B. Brookshire and husband, Grayson, Jamie P. Haushalter and husband, Ryan, Garrett Purvis and wife, Ann, Scottie P. Stiles and husband, Travis, Sarah Grace Purvis and Tyler Tran; and nine great-grandchildren, Jackson Haushalter, Harbour Barrett, Colt and Laney Brookshire, Carsyn, Elliot and Taylor Grace Purvis, and Wyatt and Colby Stiles.  Also surviving are brothers, Bruce and Bobby Faulk and sister, Sarah Lynn Faulk.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC and served as a deacon for many years.  Employed for 29 years as office manager with American Crankshaft Co., he later retired in 1999 from Lions Services, Inc.  He enjoyed his family and many friends at First Baptist Church, good southern food and reading books-on-tapes provided by the NC Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped in Raleigh, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Davidson St., Charlotte.  The family will receive friends in the Worship Center Foyer immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or to NC Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped, 1811 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC  27635.
