John Dimitri Tyler
October 29, 2026
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – John Dimitri Tyler, 23, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 29, 2026. John was known to family and friends as “John-John” or “JT,” respectively, and was born in Charlotte on Monday, January 13, 2003. He leaves behind a world that is a lot less bright without him.
As a child, John had the blondest blond hair and the bluest blue eyes as well as seemingly boundless energy. But John was a gentle soul, with a kindness that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
John attended Charlotte Catholic schools from kindergarten until graduation in 2021. Just last year he graduated from the University of Alabama, which he loved and where he made many lasting friendships including among his ΔΤΔ brothers. Roll Tide. John was a Field Engineer for Gilbane Construction in West Palm Beach, Florida. He enjoyed his work and his colleagues and always strived to do his best. He was known for his respectful nature and quiet humility, and he made many close relationships for life.
Sports were a consistent outlet for John, both football and much, much (!) lacrosse as a youth and through high school, as well as track and recreational basketball later on. He relaxed via the simple things, such as cooking, movies, music, and spending time with his close friends as well as his cat Jenny.
John will be greatly missed by his parents, Scott and LynnErin Tyler; his beloved older sister, Mary Tyler Schacht, and his brother-in-law, Reed Schacht. Also surviving John and missing him dearly are his paternal grandmother, Nellie Tyler; maternal grandmother Joyce O’Day; aunts and uncles, Jon and Tina Tyler, Tracey Mitchell, and Gary Tyler; and the best cousins anyone could hope for, Madeline, Grace, Nathan, Iris, Seth, Danny, and Aiden. We will forever cherish his sweet memory.
John is preceded in death by paternal grandfather, John Y. Tyler, Jr.; maternal great-grandfather, Metro Hetko; maternal grandfather, William J. McNeil; and maternal uncle, Bill McNeil.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 6, 2026, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM in the church Narthex. The service will be livestreamed through the church website at: https://www.stgabrielchurch.org/livefunerals for those unable to attend in person. Interment will be private.
