James Kistler Caughman passed away at home on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Mint Hill, NC.

Jim was born on June 5, 1940, to the late David Harley Caughman and Blanche Kistler Caughman in Chester, South Carolina. The family moved to the Caughman Family Farm in Lexington, South Carolina during World War II where he spent his formative years.

Jim graduated from Clemson University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dairy Science. While a student at Clemson, Jim was involved in the Corp of Cadets, Pershing Rifles, and helped to establish the fraternity of DKA, which is now Alpha Tau Omega. In his last year at Clemson, he served as Senior Class President.

Upon his graduation in 1962, he began his 30-year military career in the United
States Army, the first 2 years on Active Duty and the 28 remaining in the Army Reserves. He retired as a full Colonel.

Mr. Caughman had a long career with Sealtest and Continental Bondware before starting his own business, East Coast Marketing, which supplied the food service industry. More recently he established a second company, Golden Glow Farms, LLC, which owns and manages commercial real estate in the Carolinas.

Mr. Caughman was a life-long Lutheran and has been a member of Christ Lutheran Church since 1967.  He served in various capacities, including among other things, on Church Council, as a mentor, playing on the men’s softball team and in the choir.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, D.H. and Blanche Caughman. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sandra Sox Caughman, his daughters Catherine Caughman Wigington (Kevin), and Terri Caughman Looper (Mike). He is also survived by his grandchildren Zachary Neal Wigington (Kelton), Tucker James Wigington (Kristen), Averi Looper Ulmer (Trey), and Lindsay Looper Leslie (Cal). He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held On Friday, September 11,2026 at 2:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 4519 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226 in Christ Chapel. A reception will be held immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Caughman’s memory to the Columbarium Fund at Christ Lutheran Church.
