Janet Lewis Tuck

Janet Lewis Tuck, 80, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on August 30, 2026. Janet was born on August 28, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Glenn Bernard Lewis and Eileen Friesen Lewis Barksdale Hobbs. She moved to Charlotte at the age of four and spent a lifetime loving the city and life she built.


Janet graduated from Myers Park High School in 1964. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri for two years and graduated from University of Georgia where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was in college that she met Clifford Macon "Butch" Tuck, Jr. on a blind date, beginning a love story that would last the rest of their lives. They were married on May 24, 1969, in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

Janet was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of Myers Park Country Club. She spent many years volunteering with the Junior League of Charlotte, as well as many other local organizations and schools. She worked for First Union National Bank and then started her own business, Everyday Etiquette, where she taught manners and life skills to children. In 1990, Janet began her decades-long successful career in residential real estate. She built a top producing team, The Tuck Team at Helen Adams Realty, alongside her daughters, Melissa and Janelle. Her love of helping people find their perfect home was truly her passion. She had a gift of connecting with people and her genuine relationships with clients and fellow realtors was admired.


She made everyone feel loved, welcomed, and part of her family. She loved entertaining, traveling, and, most of all, cultivating meaningful relationships with the people around her. Her homemade meals were always delicious and her recipes coveted by others. As she always said, “everything is better with butter”. Her front porch was a gathering place, where countless happy hours were spent sharing stories, laughter, food, and friendship. Her famous Christmas bread became a cherished tradition, eagerly anticipated and lovingly shared each year. She had a rare ability to form genuine, lasting friendships across generations and was truly the matriarch of her neighborhood. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She was an extraordinary mother, the very best grandmother, and a loyal and treasured friend. Her warmth, generosity, and unconditional love touched many people and the relationships she nurtured will continue to be one of her greatest legacies. 

Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Butch Tuck, who passed away on July 8, 2026. She is survived by her daughters, Janelle Tuck Lenhart and husband Mike, and Melissa Tuck Murphy and husband Kermit; and her beloved grandsons, Jim and Hill Hansberger, and granddaughters, Macon and Molly Murphy.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 4:00 PM at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.

    Richard and I were so sorry to learn of Janet’s passing. This is a sad time for you, Melissa and Janelle, and our hope is that your many happy memories will comfort you.     We known Janet at less close to 30 years. For all this years we known her she still look amazing, elegant and young as ever. She such a caring person. When ever she comes in to get her nails done she always say hey Dinh have you see such and such I haven’t see such and such please let her know that I been thinking of her.

    She sure will be miss at Matrix Nail! We will keep her family in our prayer!

    I’m so glad I knew Janet! She was the first person I met when I moved to Charlotte in 1996! She was our realtor assigned to us by First Union’s relo services!! And she was a Theta like me!! We hit it off immediately! She found us the perfect home and we raised our 3 boys there! Lived in that house for 18 years! I enjoyed Janet’s friendship and her love of decor! She introduced me to Circa and I was hooked on beautiful home furnishings! I will miss Janet and I am so heart broken for her family. She was a beautiful soul inside and out!     Dear Janet, it was just yesterday that I was talking with you and Butch about the upcoming reunion on The Hill here in Athens. I was pushing Butch to get his stories down on paper and have some for the reunion - then lo and behold. He whimps out on me! Sadly, I call you and we have a beautiful conversation ending with the fact that you’ll be coming to the reunion and telling his stories. Then you go and have an episode and aren’t able to make it. I’m beginning to think you are afraid of my food or something? I knew that I could never compare to your culinary talents, but I sure wanted to make you and Butch Proud. Today I just ggot another call from Dan Cavett telling me that you decided to check out also and Without saying goodbye? I guess I am very sad and just a little mad. That’s only natural I feel.

    So now I must say to your daughters and their families: please know how much I appreciate what your mother did for my friend Butch those 57 odd years. You already know what a beautiful person your mother is. Of course, those of us that knew and loved her. Will miss her and miss your father in the same way but we too will be gone soon enough! . With that, I will ask you as l asked Butch to write the stories down about your parents. Write down the things that made them special and pass it on to your children and to their children. They were already remembered in my journal for not showing up a couple weeks ago. Now.I shall tell the rest of the story!!
