Mr. Daniel Milton Litaker, II, 87, of Charlotte, NC peacefully passed away on Sunday evening, July 26, 2026. He was the son of the late Charles Hart Litaker, Sr. and Eloise Greenwood Litaker. Dan was also preceded in death by his brother Charles Hart Litaker, Jr, sister-in-law Frances Johanna Litaker, sister, Eloise Litaker Kerns and brother-in-law William Patrick Kerns.

Dan was born in Charlotte, NC and is a lifelong Charlottean. He graduated from Myers Park High School in 1956 and continued his studies at Duke University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1960 before beginning a successful career in the family business, Charles H Litaker, Inc.

While at Duke, he met his bride to be, Linda Fisher Litaker (UNC Chapel Hill), at the Ocean Drive Pavillion in Myrtle Beach. They shared a love of beach music and dancing. They also shared a passion for ACC basketball which created several interesting matchups each year. They always politely, and perhaps a bit disingenuously, congratulated the other after each game. They were married for 64 years until Linda’s passing on August 20, 2024. 

They were blessed with 3 children Daniel M. Litaker, III and wife, Link, Archie F. Litaker and wife, Amy, and Lucile L. Heeseman and husband, Stephen. Dan was a devoted and loving grandfather of nine grandchildren, Justin M. Litaker and wife, Lauren, Claire L. Patterson and husband, Drew, Hunter A. Litaker and wife, Sofia, Thomas H. Litaker and wife, Isa, Ashley L. Gaines and husband, Ashton, Dannie L. Pendergrast and husband, Thomas, Emily E. Heeseman, Stephen F. Heeseman, Jr and wife, Jayden, and Katherine L. Heeseman along with ten great-grandchildren, Andrew L. Patterson, Jr., Eleanor L. Patterson, Thomas H. Litaker, Jr., Isabel J. Litaker, Elizabeth L. Litaker, Brian F. Litaker, Annalee R. Litaker, Alexander M. Litaker, Hunter A. Litaker, Grace L. Gaines and Eloise H. Gaines who all affectionately referred to him as Grandad and Da. His greatest joy was being surrounded by family.

He made a lasting and meaningful impression on so many of those around him. He loved sharing his life experiences with others. He was an avid water skier in his earlier years at Lake Wylie and then Lake Norman. He taught countless nieces, nephews and friends of his children to ski with a high degree of patience and determination. He always succeeded.

He was also a passionate tennis player at Olde Providence Racket Club where he formed many lifelong friendships. His greatest hobby, however, was saltwater fishing.  He was an accomplished angler. He cherished his time at Ocean Isle Beach and Islamorada, FL where he shared many great experiences entertaining others. He loved teaching children how to catch redfish and flounder on his very popular dock at Ocean Isle or offshore on his boats, Hog Heaven and Miss Demeanor. Being on the ocean was always his happy place. He was a mariner at heart.

Dan was a faithful servant to the Lord and an active member of Myers Park United Methodist Church for his entire life. He enjoyed attending church when he was able and always streamed the Sunday Service on TV when he wasn’t.

The Litaker family would like to extend its most grateful appreciation to the loving caregivers at The Cypress of Charlotte and VIA Health Partners with special thanks to Robyn McCain who dedicated most of her days over the last few years, caring for Linda and then Dan.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Myers Park United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall. The service will be livestreamed at:  https://boxcast.tv/channel/avywlradrkwnpw81mpef for those unable to attend in person.
