Cynthia "Cindy" Smith
July 14, 2026
Cynthia "Cindy" Smith (née Clock), 82, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her family by her side.
Born on January 8, 1944, in Bluffton, Indiana, Cindy was the beloved daughter of Dorothy and Carl Clock Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Carl Clock Jr. Cindy is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Kelly Henry (Joe), Shannon Reedy (Josh), and Meghan Martin (GW); her brother, Larry Clock (Becki); her sister-in-law, Emiko Clock; and her cherished grandchildren, McKenna Reedy, Thomas Henry, Blair Henry, Cameron Reedy, Finley Martin, and Owen Martin. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Cindy attended Burris High School in Muncie, Indiana, where her impeccable sense of style earned her the distinction of "Best Dressed." She later attended Indiana University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and graduated in 1967.
Above all, Cindy was a devoted mother and proud grandmother, affectionately known as "Mimi." Fiercely loyal to her family, she found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved. She loved traveling and creating lifelong memories with her grandchildren. She especially treasured summers at Lake Tippecanoe in Indiana, where generations created memories together.
Curious by nature and adventurous at heart, Cindy embraced life with an open mind and an enthusiasm to try new things. She loved hiking and biking, especially in the mountains of North Carolina, and was always eager to explore new destinations. A gifted artist, she found joy in painting and drawing and was an enthusiastic supporter of the performing arts. She also believed in giving back to her community, serving as a Guardian ad Litem and advocating with compassion for children in need. Whether enjoying the outdoors, creating something beautiful, helping others, or sharing time with family and friends, Cindy inspired those around her to embrace life with the same sense of wonder.
Cindy believed that friends were the family we choose. Throughout her life, she built deep and enduring friendships, and many of the friends she and her daughters shared became an extension of their family. Her home and heart were always open, filled with laughter, traditions, and countless joyful gatherings. Known for her warmth, elegance, timeless sense of style, and signature extra dirty martini, she could turn an ordinary evening into a celebration. Her generous spirit, quiet strength, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome and valued, and her love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and friends leave a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Cindy's life will be held on September 19 from 3:00–5:00 PM at The Drum in Dilworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cindy's memory to VIA Health Partners. Gifts may be made online at viagiving.org or by mail to: VIA Health Partners, Attn: Philanthropy, P.O. Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate physicians and staff at Levine Cancer Institute for their exceptional care, and to the dedicated team at VIA Health Partners for the kindness, comfort, and support they provided to Cindy and her loved ones during her final days.

We met Cindy in Charlotte, NC 52 years ago while playing tennis with her and her husband. That was the beginning of many years of a fun filled precious friendship. She could bring joy and laughter to any gathering. My condolences to her 3 daughters who are an example of the commitment and love of family that she showed them. And to her grandchildren of whom she was so proud. Love you, miss you. Lee and Diana Falberg
