Dr. Mark Robertson

June 5, 2026

Dr. Mark Robertson, 69, of Charlotte, passed away on June 5, 2026, at Novant Presbyterian Hospital. A native of Charlotte, he was the son of Barbara Robertson and the late W. T. Robertson.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Halina; son, Ian Robertson (Lidmary); daughter, Margaret Guillou (Renan); brother, Jeff Robertson (Nan); and grandchildren Noah, Luka, Chloe, and Liam. He loved his family dearly, and in recent years, was very thrilled to spend fun time with his beautiful grandchildren.

Mark was an avid learner. He attended Wake Forest and Winthrop Universities and later attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he earned a master’s degree and subsequently a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree.

Mark wanted to make a difference in the world, and early in his career he became an advocate for disadvantaged children. After graduation, he worked at Bethlehem Center in Southside Homes as a counselor and director. He later worked for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for thirty years, first as a counselor and Student Services specialist and then as an administrator. Mark served as principal of Lebanon Road and Barringer Elementary Schools and Martin Luther King Jr. and Sedgefield Middle Schools. Following his retirement, he remained deeply involved in the field of education, serving as an adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb University.

Mark loved the beach, especially Wrightsville Beach, where he enjoyed swimming, relaxing in a beach chair with a good book, and fishing. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Carolina Panthers and Wake Forest athletics. He also had a deep appreciation for music and enjoyed attending live concerts, especially those of Bruce Springsteen, of whom he was a devoted fan. Mark loved to travel and was fortunate to visit many countries around the world.

Mark was a smart, kind and gentle man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Mark's Life will take place on July 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, 501 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.
