Anne D. Mann

May 8, 2026

FORT MILL – Anne D. Mann, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Somerby Assisted Living in Fort Mill, S.C., at the age of 93.  Anne was a dynamic woman who prized her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she will certainly be missed by those she knew and loved.

Anne was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Thomas and Grace Adamo.  She married John H. Mann on July 3, 1955.  Together they raised four children, living in Brooklyn, then Westfield, N.J., before moving to Charlotte in 1972.

During the years Anne lived in Charlotte, she was a vibrant member of the Christopher Columbus Italian Club of Charlotte and the “Magnolias,” a social group of women from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Fond memories of Anne include Christmas Eve dinners with calamari and hard rolls on the table and presents that sometimes included hilariously random shopping choices.  “I never really knew what Nana might give me,” recalls her granddaughter Brittany, “but she always managed to surprise me.”  The year of camouflage cat slippers caused the whole family to burst out laughing. “It was such a funny and special moment, it still makes me smile.”  Her brother, Ryan, concurred, “We were always surprised by what we received.”

Her granddaughter Amber remembers her Nana as “the Italian grandmother who always wanted to feed you. She always had cookies — usually the shortbread kind in the round, blue tin.” On non-holidays, dinner might be served in the den, on folding trays with the evening news on. “We were allowed to have a glass of wine with dinner,” recalls Amber. “Her favorite was Asti, of course!”

Her grandson Alex’s fondest memory is “The Everlasting Birthday Candle,” an oversized candle set in a brass holder which Anne ceremoniously brought out for family member birthdays for over six decades. “I had the privilege of buying my grandmother’s home,” says Alex, “and while cleaning it out, I came across that special birthday candle. “My hope is to keep Nana’s memory alive through that candle for many generations to come.”

Anne is survived by her daughters, Patricia A. Blanton (Ray) and Grayce M. Somerville (Kevin); son, John D. Mann (Tammy); nine grandchildren, Ryan Blanton (Jonathan), Christopher Blanton, Brittany Morgan-Blanton (Christina), Amber Basista (Alex), Alex Mann (Alice), Evan Mann, Phillip Mann, Elliott Mann and Vince Mann and five great-grandchildren, Finley, Braxton and Walker Basista, and Mason and Charlotte Mann.  She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son, Thomas.

An inurnment ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the columbarium of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Anne to: Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 or Saint Phillip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Rd.
