Dale Woodrow Johnson

April 30, 2026

CHARLOTTE - Dale Woodrow Johnson, 74, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, following a courageous battle with ALS.

Dale was born on September 11, 1951, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Jane Anne Hess Johnson and Horace Woodrow Johnson. He was a proud graduate of North Carolina State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and later received his master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

For 44 years, Dale shared a devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Carol Fox Johnson. Their story began at St. John’s Baptist Church, where their faith and community remained central throughout their lives together. Dale was a faithful member of the church for 45 years.

Dale dedicated 39 years of his career to Duke Energy, where he was respected for his diligence, integrity, and steady leadership before retiring.

A passionate supporter of NC State Wolfpack athletics, Dale rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—participating in fantasy sports leagues, serving as an usher at Blumenthal Theater, and volunteering his time with Roof Above and Room in the Inn, where he quietly gave of himself to help those in need.

Dale will be remembered for his quiet generosity, steady presence, and the way he made others feel supported and at ease. He had a generous heart, a deep love for his family, and a well-timed dad joke ready for any occasion.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Fox Johnson; his son, Brian Johnson and wife Kristen; his daughter, Kristen Fields and husband Brandon; and his cherished grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Parker Fields, Peyton Fields, and Brandon Oliver Fields.

A service to celebrate Dale’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at St. John’s Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Joe Martin ALS Foundation, 100 N. Tryon Street, Suite 3420, Charlotte, NC 28202 or Roof Above, Attn: Philanthropy Office, PO Box 31335, Charlotte, NC 28231.

    My sincerest condolences...
I had the pleasure of working with Dale for several years - the two of us manning the Tabulator during voting sessions. During lull times he shared stories and photos of the family he adored. So glad to have known this wonderful man: so sad that he is gone.

I met Dale at the Board Of Election’s warehouse and he was a fuel tech for Early Voting. They always had a kind word to share and always help anyone that he could but one thing I knew for sure they love those grandbabies when he spoke of them his entire face lit up with joy you will be messed.

Dale was one of my longest term and dearest friends. We played in Band together in Elementary, Jr and Sr High Schools. When he graduated from NC State and moved to Charlotte, we reconnected and continued our friendship with regular lunches and other get togethers for the next 50 plus years.
His wife Carol and I became friends as well over the years; and my love and prayers go out to her, Kristen and Brian, and their families.
Dale will always be my “Dear Dale” and I will never forget the fine man he was. Rest in Peace, and All Hail the Traveler.
