Joe Roberson Dyer

Joe Roberson Dyer of Charlotte, North Carolina, died peacefully on April 24, 2026, at the age of 82. Joe was born on January 10, 1944, in Augusta, Georgia, to the late John Hollis Dyer and Sarah Armstrong Smith Dyer.
Raised in Savannah, Georgia, he graduated from Savannah High School in 1962, where he served as Student Body President and drum major, and from the University of Georgia in 1966, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Joe worked in various management roles for Sears and Roebuck Co. from 1967 until 1992 and later served as a financial advisor with Harbor Capital Management from 1994 until his retirement in 2015. A resident of Charlotte for over 30 years, he was previously the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Providence Day School, the Senior Warden of the Vestry of Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church, and an active member of the Dilworth Rotary Club.
In his retirement, he and his wife Patty were residents of Boone, North Carolina, where he was actively involved in the Blowing Rock Rotary Club and as a communicant of Saint Mary’s of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Thompson Dyer; his two children, Leslie Williams and her husband Frank of Greenville, South Carolina, and Robert Dyer and his wife Jackie of Boone; and four grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “BooJoe”: Ellen Williams, Camp Williams, Carlton Dyer (fiancée Gresham Collins), and Austin Dyer. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jane Willis, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John H. Dyer, Jr.
Joe will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, a dear and loyal friend, and a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. He will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Stewart Health Center at The Cypress of Charlotte for their exceptional care, comfort and support.
A visitation will be held on May 7, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Cypress Clubhouse, 3600 Cypress Club Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Savannah, Georgia.
