 CHARLOTTE - Hannah Cowen Melton Maurer went to be with our Lord early Friday morning, March 20, 2026.

She was born on March 15, 1925 on a farm in Golden Valley (Rutherford County), the daughter of Douglas and Myrtle Melton. She grew up helping on the farm along with her two brothers and three sisters.
Hannah graduated from Sunshine School and went to Pheiffer University in the fall. She was so homesick for her family, she left after one semester and moved to Charlotte to live with her sister and attend business school. After finishing, she began work and moved to a boarding house where she met the love of her life - J.P. Maurer, Uncle Butch. They were married in 1947 at a Presbyterian Church in downtown Charlotte. She wore a beautiful dress her sister Eloise made her.

She worked for Radiator Specialty for over 50 years and retired as payroll manager.

Hannah and Butch joined Westover Hills Presbyterian and attended until it closed in 2003. They moved their membership to Steele Creek Presbyterian Church but kept a relationship with her Westover Family attending the “Westover Leftovers” luncheon every month.

Hannah was the kindest, sweetest, and most dignified lady you would ever know. She was the very definition of “class”! Hannah and Butch were a loving couple who were generous to all her nieces and nephews.
We celebrated her 101st Birthday on Sunday and she was her unique, funny self for family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Butch, her parents, two brothers Foy and Preston Melton, and two sisters Eloise Stilwell and Loretta Lemmond.

She is survived by her sister Margaret Cline Wert and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Hannah loved those children.

Services with be held at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 with visitation at 12:00 noon and service at 1:00pm. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
