Sarah Emily Baker Hinson
February 13, 2026
Sarah Baker Hinson, 87, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026. Sarah Emily, Sis to family, was born April 12, 1938, at home in Waxhaw, NC, the daughter of Luther B. Baker and Juanita Byrum Baker.
Sarah graduated from Waxhaw High School where she played half-court women's basketball and was an organist at church. She attended Queens College and became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. She remained active in Silverliners, a charitable organization for former flight attendants.
Sarah was an early member of Providence United Methodist Church where she was active in the Chipley Bible Class and Women's Circle, with her favorite fundraiser being the Cookie Walk and Christmas Market. Sarah loved to sing and was a long-standing member of the church choir, performing on trips to New York City and Europe. She also participated in the Singing Christmas Tree for many years. Sarah loved to exercise and enjoyed walks and classes at the Harris Y and later the Cornwell Center. She had a zest for life that was infectious and made friends wherever she went.
Sarah treasured the time with her grandchildren who called her Nana. She accompanied them to the beach and the mountains, faithfully attended their activities and never missed a birthday. Nana traveled from the Carolinas to Colorado to participate in school graduations and weddings. She was their biggest cheerleader.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Juanita Baker; her brother, Luther B. Baker, Jr.; her brother, Charles W. Baker; and her grandson, Andrew J. Reichmeier. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Reichmeier (Jack) and Tracey Stipp (John); her grandchildren, Michelle Curtis (Pierson), John Reichmeier (Katie), Christin McDonald (Evan), Joseph Stipp, and Jackson Stipp; her great-granddaughters, Elsie Reichmeier and Isla McDonald; and her brother, Carl F. Baker (Sandy).
