The Lancaster High School Class of 1963 sends their thoughts and prayers to the Bagwill Family. So sorry to be late with our condolences only found out just yesterday. All of the classmates that still live in Lancaster still reminise about our school days, we were just talking about Pinky a few months ago. Pete Carnes had a neat story to tell about his Charlotte New Paper route. Again thoughts and prayers.
When Pinky and I were in sixth grade he asked me if I wanted to take over his Charlotte News route. It began at French and Elm and continued near the Midway theater. We met at a parking lot near the Winn Dixie and received our bundle of 40-50 papers. He showed me how to fold the inserts inside the papers and attach a rubber band. Then he gave me a list of addresses. Most were on Elm St. On Friday I had to collect from each customer. I had to attach a wire basket to my bike handlebars. He had worked for the Charlotte News for many months and was ready to retire. I enjoyed taking over his route except for rainy days. I think I worked at this for a few months until I found a better career repairing bikes. I worked at K. C. Billings’ Sporting Goods on Main St. learning bicycle repair. He had a back room where he fixed bikes and taught me how to work on them. I am indebted to Pinky for his friendship . He was a great friend, always cheerful. I look forward to seeing him again. -
I am so sorry to learn of Pinkey’s passing. We attended high school together and he was always such a nice guy and fun to be around. It doesn’t surprise me that he was a wonderful family man and that he had a successful career. My condolences to his wife and family and to the Bagwell family. Rest in peace, Pinkey. You will be remembered and your presence will be missed.
