Konstandinos “Gus” Serafim Goumas

April 8, 2025

CHARLOTTE – Konstandinos “Gus” Serafim Goumas, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.  He was born on November 14, 1942, in Voilada, Evrytanias, Greece, to the late Serafim and Efrosini Goumas.

His family will always remember him as a hard-working and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a way of making everyone laugh without even trying.

Growing up in a small village in Greece, his work ethic developed from a very young age.  He started by planting olive trees and working in his father’s farming fields.  These responsibilities inspired his love for the outdoors, which also included his favorite pastime of hunting.  He served his country of Greece in the military, and after finishing his service, he returned to his home and continued working on the family farm.

In 1968, he married his loving wife, Maria, and soon after, they immigrated to the United States and settled in Charlotte, NC.  When he came to the US, his first jobs were in construction, but most of his working life was spent in the restaurant business.  After retiring, he loved working in his backyard as a beekeeper and planting fruit and chestnut trees.  He was an avid gardener who received great joy from sharing his vegetables with family and friends.  The highlight of his week was spending every Saturday at the local Farmer’s Market and meeting up with his friends.

Gus is survived by his devoted wife, Maria; his daughters, Frances Simopoulos and her husband, Peter, and Tina Christenbury and her husband, Mitch; four grandchildren, Sotiri Simopoulos, Connie Simopoulos, Maria Christenbury, and Alexis Christenbury.  Also surviving is his sister, Alexandra Koutsikos to the late George Koutsikos, and brothers, George Goumas and Ioannis Goumas; his sisters-in-law, Bessie Margonis and her husband, George, and Melody Katsanos to the late George Katsanos; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where Gus was a member.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Gus to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203, or Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park, 125 Jim Parker Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
