Cordelia Mauney Bennett

February 12, 2025

CHARLOTTE – Cordelia Mauney Bennett, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Born in Lincoln County, NC, Cordelia was the daughter of Lester Mauney and Bonnie Withers Mauney.  She was known for her kind heart, unwavering support, and remarkable ability to connect with others.  Cordelia always made those around her feel valued and loved.  A lifelong member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church for over 70 years, Cordelia’s faith was a guiding light in her life.  She cherished the time spent with her church family, and her devotion to her faith was central to everything she did.

Cordelia led a fulfilling life, dedicated to her family and community.  In her free time, she loved reading, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild, who were her greatest joy. Her only regret will be that she did not get to meet her second great-grandchild due in March.

She is survived by her children, Debra Price (Steven), Cathy Bennett, and Leslie Tye (Earl); her five grandchildren, Laura Hall (Cooper), Adam Price, Courtney Tye (James Park), Jonathan Tye (Olivia), and David Tye; and her great-grandchild, Caroline Hall.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis Bennett.

A memorial service to celebrate Cordelia’s life will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.

Cordelia’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved and knew her. She will be deeply missed by all.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Mrs. DD was a very nice lady. I will miss our visits when we would come to NC. We couldn't leave without seeing you. You would have lunch prepared for us & I just loved your company & your beautiful daughters. Momma has told me many stories about you like how kind you were to her. You will forever be in my heart. Love you & your family. Love Sharon

Cordelia was my neighbor and loyal friend for many years. Our children grew up together and I felt like they had a second “mom”. She was always a friend you could count on and I love her like a sister. We shared many memories, many happy ones and others not so happy. We helped each other through all the good and the bad She will be missed by all the Atkinson family.
