CHARLOTTE – John Gilliam Ross died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.  John was born in Newberry, SC on December 15, 1925. 

As a proud Navy Veteran of World War II, he pursued his long career as a Professional Electrical Engineer after graduating from Clemson University.  Upon moving to Charlotte in the 1950’s, he enjoyed a long career with various design firms.  For the last several years (finally retiring in October 2024) he worked with the wonderful group of people he considered family at Harrell Design Group.

John was a gregarious man with a zest for life.  He truly never met a stranger.  He was a voracious reader, traveler and outdoors man, especially anything to do with water.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Jo Ross.  They enjoyed sixty plus years together traveling the world together with their friends.  They always enjoyed their friends at the Christian Home Sunday School Class at Providence Methodist Church.

John is survived by his daughters, Marcia Dover (Forrest), Laura Ross; grandchildren, Josh, Matt, Nick (Shawna), and Adam (Leslie) Dover, Courtney Dover Busch (Mike Vandall); five great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces.  He was also predeceased by his sister and best friend, Dorothy Ross Harmon Connelly.

The family expresses its sincere gratitude to First Light Home Care and Hospice.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in the Spring.
