David Keith Kinsey

December 18, 2024
CHARLOTTE – David Keith Kinsey died December 18, 2024, after a year-long battle with cancer. Born October 10, 1963, David was a native Charlottean and called the Queen City home throughout his life.
He was an avid golfer and loved playing challenging golf courses across the country. In the process of lining his shelves with golf trophies, David donated thousands of golf balls to local lakes and ponds and left a few bent irons behind as well. If you play golf, you understand. When he wasn’t playing golf, David regaled anyone who would listen with funny stories featuring his many golf buddies, especially Snake, and the friends he tipped a cold one with at his favorite place away from a golf course, DeRamus’s – aka Providence Road Sundries.
David was a funny, caring, and loyal father, son, brother, and friend. He could defuse any tough situation with kindness and humor and he will be deeply missed.
He found meaning in this quote from comedian Norm Macdonald who said, “you don’t lose your battle with cancer. It’s a draw because the cancer dies with you.”
David is survived by his son, Cooper Lee Kinsey; mother, Patsy Barnett Kinsey; father C. Ralph Kinsey, Jr. and his wife Sylvia Kinsey; brother, Charles Kinsey; sister, Betsy Muse (John), nieces, Katie and Emily Muse; aunts, Carolyn Vanderburg (Doug) and Aloma Kirby; and cousins Jennifer, Jay, Julie, Jeffrey, and Glenn; Cooper’s mother, Tameria Sanders; and his beloved cat, Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Keith and Lorena Barnett, and paternal grandparents, Jonell and Harold Kellams.
