Jonathan M. Waldron

October 21, 2024

Jonathan M. Waldron passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2024, in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia.  He had accepted an English language teaching position there.  He had made many trips to Tbilisi, a city he found both friendly and historically fascinating.  In addition, his wife, daughter, and in-laws live nearby in Rustavi, Georgia.

Jon was born March 21, 1984, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Jon spent his early life in Minnesota attending grade school, middle school, and high school in the Minnetonka School District. He studied, matriculated and/or received degrees at Iowa State University, University College Cork, Ireland, and St. Thomas Graduate School.  Studying abroad gave Jon the incentive to travel whenever he could.  He received his CELTA certificate to teach English as a foreign language in other countries.  As he traveled in over 20 countries, he became proficient at speaking several languages.  He was comfortable speaking in Russian as he taught in Moscow, Russia, and in Budva, Montenegro.

While waiting to return to the Republic of Georgia to reunite with his family, Jon enjoyed working at Harris Teeter in Charlotte, NC. He formed lasting friendships with his colleagues at several locations in the city.

He touched the lives of many young people he taught in preparation for their ACT and SAT exams as well as those he taught in a classroom setting studying English as a second language.

Jon is desperately missed by his wife, Alla Waldron; his daughter, Yelizaveta (Liza) Waldron; his parents, Ken and Betsy Waldron; his sister, Amy Waldron Lukacs and her family, Dr. Nicholas Lukacs; his niece, Kylie Lukacs, and his nephew, Matthew Lukacs.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
