Cydne Wright Farris

November 5, 2024

CHARLOTTE – Cydne Wright Farris died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with her devoted husband, Ray S. Farris, Jr. by her side asleep in his chair.  She will be remembered for her beautiful devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. Cydne lived a rich and vibrant life marked by her strong faith and love of family.

She was born in Greensboro NC, attended St. Mary’s in Raleigh and then graduated from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill where she met Ray.  And, in a deep family secret, graduated with a Master’s degree in teaching from Duke University.

A woman with a great capacity to help others, Cydne was deeply passionate about teaching the power of art and music while working at the Mint Museum and her work with various charities. She was a concert pianist, who in surprise and delight- managed to sit down in May 2024, in front of her grandchildren, and play a flawless rendition of a Beethoven piano concerto # 5 despite advanced dementia.

Cydne's spirit will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.  She was a beautiful wife, mother and grandmother who loved fiercely and taught to love one another with kindness, humility and patience.

Cydne's legacy is a testament to her dedication to family and her unwavering love for her husband, Ray of 59 years.   She is survived by her children, Emily Wall and husband, Craig, Ray Farris III (Rip) and wife, Blair and her beloved grandchildren, Sydney Farris, Craig Wall IV, Duwe Farris, Liles Wall, Oliver Farris and Campbell Wall.  Also surviving is her brother, James “Jim“ Wright and wife, Margot and their children, Maggie Rogers and husband, Logan and their son, Jay Wright.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St Peter Catholic Church, 507 S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service in Biss Hall at the church. Parking for the church can be accessed from 500 South College Street in the Green Parking Deck.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Ray and family, I am saddened by Cydne's death. Having been a classmate in high school and Carolina, I always knew her as a special person. I never saw her without a smile. She will be missed.

Thought you would be interested in seeing this obit for Emily Wall's mother. If I didn't feel so badly, I would try to go to her funeral.
