James Albert Warren

June 10, 2024

James Albert Warren passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024. He was born in Sampson County, North Carolina on September 25, 1933 to the late Opheus and Neta Warren. Albert was the youngest of three children. He was raised on a farm and attended school in the Herring Community where he played basketball and baseball. It was there he met his future wife, Ruth Carolyn then Holland who passed away in 2022 just two weeks short of their 70th anniversary.

Following their marriage, the couple moved to Charlotte where their first child, James, Jr. was born.  Albert was drafted and the family was reunited in Stuttgart, Germany where he was stationed reaching the rank of corporal.  Following his service, the family came back to Charlotte where Albert worked for J.P. Stevens at its customer service center.  Two more children were born to the couple, Dean Anthony and Karen Ruth.  In 1982 the couple moved to Greenville, SC for Albert’s job.  In 1988 they moved to Southern Pines, NC where they lived for 25 years before coming back to Charlotte to be closer to family.

Wherever he lived Albert had many friends and was active in the churches he and Carolyn attended. He was a dedicated family man and worker who with his loving wife set a shining example to their children and others by the Christian lives they led. He loved golf, the Boston Red Sox, and his family. In addition to golf, he enjoyed bridge and getting together with friends. He was loved by all and will be missed every day. He enjoyed many new relationships at his last home, Carmel Hills, especially Martha Rowe whom he married in August 2023.

Albert is survived by his three children, James, Jr. (Brenda); Dean Anthony Warren (Lisa); and Karen Ruth Marcilliat (Kevin); ten grandchildren; Carol Jones (Kevin); April Warren (Dave Clay); Amanda Hicks (Tim); Jenny Orkin (Kevin); Kevin Marcilliat (Lauren); Tom Warren (Rachel); Taylor Warren (Savanah); Jordan Warren (Quinn); Katie Warren (fiancé Brent Smith), and Mary Claire Warren. He also leaves 16 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn, his sister Ebbie, and his brother Robert. There will be a memorial service on June 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be to a charity of the donor’s choice.

    Jim, Dean, and Karen,
I'm just now learning of your father's passing. I have always thought so highly of your entire family, and this makes me so sad. Thinking of you all.

One of my favorite memories of Al and Carolyn Warren was at "Charlotte Rescue Mission". Carolyn was already in the advanced stages of her disease. They wanted so badly to help us serve the meal for the residents there. Al placed a stool at the serving line where Carolyn could sit and serve rolls as each person filed by. Both were true servants and will surely be missed. They set a great example to others. They were faithful attenders and participants of the Faith In Action SS Class of First Baptist Church of Matthews. It was my privilege to know and work with them.

We had the pleasure of knowing Al and Carolyn for many years. We shared many vacations with them and Marlene, all memorable, all enjoyable. Al got Bob on as an employee atThe Legacy golf course which led to many years of golf stories, watching Al utilize his extensive vocabulary on the course. What’s said on the course stays on the course! Al taught us that when playing Train and you have no move, “we most generally say Newp”. House rules.
There’s a huge feeling of loss, offset with the joy of having know both Al and Carolyn. Our hearts are with their family.
