CHARLOTTE – Thomas Edward Meckley passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, with his wife and daughters by his bedside. He was born April 1,1945, on Easter Sunday, in Lancaster, PA and grew up in Mount Joy, PA.

After graduating from Donegal High School, he attended Elizabethtown College, earning an accounting degree in 1967 before marrying his high school sweetheart, Sandra Wolgemuth, and beginning his career as an accountant in Harrisburg, PA with the firm then known as Ernst & Ernst.  His accounting career was briefly put on hold during his 2-year service in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany.  When his active duty concluded, Tom returned to Ernst & Ernst in Harrisburg before becoming a partner with Ernst & Whinney and then relocating to Charlotte with his family in 1985, where he spent the remainder of his 38-year career with Ernst & Young.  In retirement, Tom traveled extensively with his wife, visiting all 7 continents, and soaked up time with his family, cherishing the memories he created with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Tom was active in the community, and his accomplishments, accolades, and contributions were innumerable. He shared his time and talents with professional organizations, nonprofits, his church, and his alma mater.  In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with Trustee Emeritus at Elizabethtown College and Director Emeritus at Good Fellows Club of Charlotte.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, patience, and generosity.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandy; daughters, J.J. Wolfe (Robert) and Betsy Boyd (Carr); his grandchildren, Annmarie Wolfe and Matthew, Allison, and Kirsten Boyd; and his sister, Barbara and her family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Helen Meckley.

Tom’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Marshall Silverman, Dr. Earl Burgess, the staff of the Park Neighborhood at Embrace Health, Lisa Falkner with Hospice and Palliative Care, and Reggie Taylor for the care they gave to Tom over the past 4 years.

A celebration of life is planned at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC.  A reception will follow at Southminster in the Shelton Room.  The service will be livestreamed at: https://boxcast.tv/view/tom-meckley-memorial-service-qwacgfz7bishbka9pl81 for those unable to attend in person.
