Clifford Macon Tuck Jr. "Butch"
July 8, 2026
Clifford Macon Tuck Jr. “Butch”, 79, died July 8, 2026 peacefully at his home.
Butch was born in Tampa, Fla on Sept. 26, 1946 son of the late Clifford M. Tuck and the late Jeanette Woodring Tuck. He spent his childhood in Athens, Ga. He graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Ga and Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC where he played on the first soccer team and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He served in the US Army in Viet Nam as a First Lieutenant Infantry.
On a blind date in college he met his wife, Janet Lewis of Charlotte, NC. It was their last blind date.
While in college he engaged in real estate sales in Athens, Ga and continued in Charlotte, NC after service in the Army. He was employed by Commercial Management, Inc., a real estate management company. Later he headed a three generational family manufacturer’s representative firm, Clifford M. Tuck Company, Inc. After some time he joined his wife and later his daughters, Melissa and Janelle in real estate sales at Bissell Hayes Realtors and later Cottingham Chalk Realtors.
Butch was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school, served on the Ushers Committee and was involved with the Youth Ministries Committee. He enjoyed coaching Myers Park Trinity Girls Softball, Youth Soccer and participating in Indian Princesses with his two daughters, Janelle and Melissa. Also he was a member of Myers Park Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors, Tennis Committee, and Food and Beverage Committee. Butch enjoyed traveling with family to different places all over the US, and abroad with friends. Wherever he went he became interested in the people he met. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He’d rather watch a good dog hunt than a bad hunter shoot, and got excited when after a long fight a good fish was released. Fond memories lasted of playing not-so-stellar golf with friends where the “Happy Shots” were more memorable than the score. He participated in Habitat for Humanity and various other charitable causes. He began writing humor in his short, short stories which he shared with friends based on life experiences.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by his children; daughter, Janelle Lenhart and husband, Mike Lenhart and his buddies, grandsons Jim Hansberger III and Hill Hansberger of Charlotte, NC; and daughter Melissa Murphy and husband, Kermit Murphy and granddaughters, Macon and Molly of Charlotte, NC.
Butch was the CEO of having a good time. He loved cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, singing with wedding bands, and telling jokes. He will be remembered for his quick wit, constant sense of humor and appreciation for a memorable life with friends and family. He was widely known and adored by so many. He spent much time in his rocking chair on the front porch greeting walkers and neighbors. He was like a father and grandfather to so many and will be deeply missed. His stories and memories will live on forever. We love you Buh! And in his owns words: To share a friend’s thoughts: “I hope I caused all that knew me to smile or laugh. Thanks for making me do the same. I certainly had a great life-perfect wife, loving supportive family, and loyal fun-loving friends all through my life…”
A celebration of life will be held on a Friday, July 17th at 2:00 PM at Myers Park Presbyterian Church in the sanctuary.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
