 Paul Alton Marchant, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026.

Paul was born on June 4th, 1947 in Bath, Maine. He graduated from Morse High School where he was a competitive swimmer and a talented drummer who played in local rock bands. That part of his life became something of a legend -stories told over the years that Paul tried to keep quiet. Music was always a constant. He loved classic rock and roll and had a habit of jumping in to sing lines from songs and drum along to whatever was playing, usually loud enough that everyone else had no choice but to hear it.

He was the son of the late Paul A Sr. and Madeline (Emmel) Marchant and brother to Susan (Marchant) Jalbert. He was also the husband of the late Jeanne Ann (Connolly) Marchant.

After graduating from the University of Maine and starting what would end up a long career in healthcare operations, Paul met the love of his life, Jeanne Ann. Paul and Jeanne left Maine and lived in Chicago, IL, Claymont, DE, Buckingham, PA, Purcellville, VA, Kalispell, MT, Republic, MO, Richmond, VA, Land O' Lakes, FL, Georgetown, TX, Seven Lakes, NC, and eventually Myrtle Beach, SC. Paul didn't stay in one place for long, but one thing never changed-he loved being on the water. Specifically he loved being on his boat, he owned more than a few boats over the years in all of those locations, and was happiest out on the water with Jeanne, anyone from the family, a cold beer, and the breeze blowing.

Jeanne was by his side through it all. He will be laid to rest next to her at St. Patrick's Church in Damariscotta, Maine, at the church where they were married.

Paul is survived by his three children, Chris (Mollie), David (Jasmine), Sara (Kevin) Hampel, and his dog, Preston. In later years, he became "Grampy" (sometimes "Grumpy") to eight grandchildren-seven grandsons, Ethan, Jack, Charlie, Reid, Connor, Luke, Christian, and one granddaughter, Brooklyn-and he took pride in that role.

Paul lived life on his own terms, in true rock and roll style, he didn't like being told what to do and didn't like a lot of people - but he really loved his family and those who loved his family.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 380 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle, ME 04553.
