Henry (Ted) Richardson, II

December 31, 2025

CHARLOTTE - Henry (Ted) Richardson, II, formerly a longtime resident of Haig Point on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 31, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was 81.

Ted was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, in 1944 to Philip Burt Richardson and Elizabeth (Betts) Wiswall Richardson. He spent cherished summers with his family in Falmouth, Massachusetts, and graduated from Montclair Academy in 1962, where he proudly captained the school’s first bowling team. Known for his positive spirit and easygoing charm, Ted approached both academics and friendships with enthusiasm, completing his Bachelor’s degree in Business in just three years at Rider College.

In March 1965, at the age of 21, Ted married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Noel Platt. They shared 38 years of marriage and together built a family that remained his greatest source of pride throughout his life.

Ted spent most of his professional career as President of Richardson Construction Company, remodeling and building homes for families in New England and later in South Carolina. He was always willing to lend a hand and took pride in helping others. Ted volunteered countless hours to the extensive renovation of the Ivoryton Playhouse, helping restore it as a vibrant center for the performing arts.

With a generous heart and a larger-than-life personality, Ted loved to laugh and found joy on the dance floor. A lifelong traveler, first with his parents and brother Tom and later with his own family, he delighted in meeting new people and sharing experiences. Family outings often included sweets and music and always joke telling. In one of his most touching gestures, Ted wrote original songs to dance with each of his daughters at their weddings.

Ted adored children and was endlessly affectionate with his grandchildren, nieces, and beloved pets. Each Christmas, he delighted in dressing up as Santa Claus and delivering gifts to friends’ children, simply for the joy of seeing their smiles.

A fierce competitor on the golf course, tennis court, bowling alley, or backgammon board, Ted was perhaps most famous for his playful pranks. With a twinkle in his eye and a knowing smirk, he would quietly giggle until the ruse was uncovered. Among his favorite moments were time spent with family and friends on the beach in Madison, Connecticut, and later gazing out over Calibogue Sound on Daufuskie Island.

Ted is survived by his daughter Heather Richardson Bonner of Charlotte, North Carolina, her husband Sean Bonner, and their children Alison and Ryan; and his daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Richardson Bohne of Winchester, Massachusetts, her husband Paul Bohne, and their children Madison and Whitney. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas W. Richardson, and his grandson, Sean Paul Bonner, Jr.

A gentleman with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Ted will be remembered for the laughter he brought to everyone around him. His love and warmth live on in the stories we share and the smiles he continues to inspire.

A small, private family service will be held at a later date. Friends and family are asked to share stories of remembrance of Ted with Heather and Cindy at TedatHaig@gmail.com or online at https://kennethpoeservices.com/obituaries.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Homes For Our Troops, https://www.hfotusa.org/mission/ or Mission34.org in honor of his grandson, Sean P Bonner.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606.
