Sarah Frances Rankin

December 14, 2024
CHARLOTTE – On the afternoon of Saturday, December 14, 2024, Sarah Frances Rankin, 87, of Charotte, NC passed away peacefully. She was born to the late Odell Rankin and Sudie Smith Rankin of McAdenville, NC.
Sarah graduated from Belmont (South Point) High School where she was a cheerleader and met her late husband, Reginald Lee Huffstetler. She attended and graduated from Mars Hill University, Chowan University, and University of NC (Charlotte) obtaining certificates and degrees in Liberal Arts, Journalism, and Education.
Sarah led a dual career life with early and late years as a bank representative and retiring with Wachovia (Wells Fargo Bank), Charlotte, NC. Her middle working years she was a dedicated Charlotte Mecklenburg School teacher focusing on title 1 programs helping young children with extra needs. She also spent many years teaching various grades in elementary and middle school. She was a member of the Professional Educators Sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa.
Sarah was a dedicated and loyal member of Myers Park Babtist church where she spent many years volunteering and was a choir member. One of her favorite memories was her choir performing at Carnegie Hall, NY. She also loved her trip with fellow church members to Scotland to learn more about the land where her ancestors originated.
Sarah was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. Her passion for hard work, loyalty, faith, and family were obvious in her upbringing from her parents. She absolutely cherished family events, holidays, and cooking. Sarah was studious and loved to take notes on just about everything she read. She was drawn to music as she spent some years studying violin, but her passion turned to singing and the church choir. She was fun, funny, and had an infectious laugh that once started you couldn’t stop if engaged in laughter with her. She surely will always be missed and loved.
Sarah is survived by her two sons, Jonathan Huffstetler of China Grove, NC and David Huffstetler and his wife, Tessa of Pawleys Island, SC; her four grandchildren, Grant Huffstetler of Pawleys Island, SC, Lauren Huffstetler of Pawleys Island, SC, Peyton Huffstetler of China Grove, NC, and Keegan Huffstetler of China Grove, NC and her loving siblings, Nancy Robinson of Charlotte, NC, Jean Suggs of Cary, NC, and Bill Rankin of Denver, NC.
