Haroldine Peeler Aull

July 21, 2018

CHARLOTTE – Haroldine Peeler Aull, 85, died peacefully on July 21, 2018.  She was born on March 3, 1933 in Salisbury, North Carolina to the late Roy Harold Peeler and Grace Rosalie Dwiggins Peeler Koontz. She was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She graduated from Boyden High School with the class of 1951. Upon graduation from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1954, she married Philip Sidney Aull.  They moved to California to study photography and art.  They later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where they began their family and pursued a career in the photography business. She helped run Phil Aull Studio during the day, while he worked nights, until the business was well established.

Haroldine was the portrait artist, studio manager and bookkeeper for the studio for many years.  She retouched and painted oil portraits for Charlotte customers for over 45 years.  Well known as a talented artist, Haroldine received many awards from her state and national photography associations.

She was a member of the Professional Photographers of North Carolina and the Professional Photographers of America, where she earned her Craftsman of Photography Degree in 1970. She enjoyed sharing these skills with other aspiring artists through workshops and summer short courses.

Travelling was one of Haroldine’s favorite hobbies.  In addition to their travels around the world, she and her husband took each of their five grandchildren on a trip of their choice when they turned 13.  These great memories are cherished in our family along with fun times spent on Lake Norman.  She was an avid reader, loved her puzzles, her dog, afternoon tea and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Philip Sidney Aull.  Surviving are her daughters Cassie Aull Stone and her husband Ray of Wilkesboro, NC; Cindy Aull Flehan and her husband Ronnie of Charlotte, NC; her five grandchildren, Katie Stone Eller and her husband Nick of Mooresville, NC; Philip Stone of Wilkesboro, NC; Mark Stone of San Diego, CA; Allison Flehan of Charlotte, NC and Jonathan Flehan of Charlotte, NC; as well as great-granddaughters Caroline Sydney Eller and Charlotte Grace Eller of Mooresville, NC, and one sister, Genelda Price of Raleigh, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday July 26, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, located at 1001 Queens Road in Charlotte, NC, with the Rev. Michael Frye officiating.  Family will receive friends following the service at the home.
