Edwin S. Poole, III

June 9, 2018

Edwin Seybourne Poole, III passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 9, 2018 in Charlotte, North Carolina after a valiant struggle with cancer. He was 58 years old and a Charlotte resident. Ed fondly was called “Trey” by his family and childhood friends. Trey was a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, TN, Rice University and the M.B.A. program at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an active member of Myers Park United Methodist Church where he met his beautiful wife, Lynn Knox, who he married in 1987, and where he enjoyed rekindling friendships upon his return to Charlotte in the fall of 2014. Ed’s career took him to Atlanta, GA, Tampa, FL and home to Charlotte with Bank South, Wachovia and Wells Fargo Bank respectively. Most recently, Ed worked for the Wells Fargo Commercial Real Estate Lending group; he was considered to be very knowledgeable and a mentor to more junior employees. Ed's attitude of gratitude extended into his giving back to the community through participation in volunteer opportunities at Wells Fargo. His co-workers have said "Ed was a terrific worker and person. Ed will be missed."

Ed had a brilliant mind, recognized by his achievements throughout his education and career. He was a loving husband and caregiver to his wife, Lynn Knox, who predeceased him; his service to her care was inspiring to anyone who knew him. Ed’s pride and joy was evident in his love and devotion to his daughter, Caroline. He was so proud of all of her accomplishments. He encouraged her creative pursuits and exploration of the world, as experienced in recent trips together. Ed loved rooting for his favorite sports teams and equally enjoyed architecture, art and music. He will be remembered for his courage and grace in difficult times and for always being a gentleman to those he encountered.

Ed is survived by his daughter, Caroline Chapin Poole of New York, NY; his father, Edwin S. Poole, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn of Columbus, GA; his sister, Julia “Cissie” Sullivan and her husband, Michael of Aiken, SC; his brother, Bryan Duff Poole of Athens, GA and brother-in-law, Charles E. Knox of Cornelius, NC, and sister-in-law, Sandra Leigh Knox of Charlotte, NC. Ed was predeceased by his wife, Lynn Knox Poole, and his mother, Jeanne W. Poole.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Hospice & Palliative Care and Charlotte Health & Rehabilitation for their compassionate care. As a tribute to Ed, please consider donations to Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30309

I remember Ed fondly from our days at Rice. He was a gentleman and an intellectual, with a keen insight into the world around him. Many memories grow dim with time, but I will always remember my conversations with Ed.

So sorry to hear Ed passed 3 years and 2 days from when his sweet wife Lynn passed. Ed and Lynn were good friends of ours when we joined Myers Park United Methodist Church in the 80s. They asked us to help them start a new couples Sunday school class that is still active today. Ed was such an exceptionally smart, loving and kind person. We will miss Ed and know Lynn and Ed are together in paradise. Our prayers are with the Knox and Poole family.
