Leverne Phifer

CHARLOTTE – Leverne “Cooter Bug” Phifer, 76, of Charlotte, died May 22, 2018 at Atrium Health Care.  A Charlotte native, Leverne was born February 20, 1942, son of the late James and Willette Phifer.  He was a graduate of West Charlotte High School and served in the Marine Corp in Vietnam.  Leverne was a former chaplain for the Charlotte Rescue Mission and most recently worked at Ferguson Box Company.

Leverne is survived by his wife, Wanda; five children, Laverne Jr., Luther, Joshua and Hanna Phifer and Debra Smith; four grandchildren; four sisters, Rebecca Sullivan, Wilhelmina Wallace (Joseph), Sylvia Massey (Thomas) and Geraldine Phifer; two brothers, Nathaniel and Bobby Phifer; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Myers Park United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary.
