Ruth Moody Griffith

September 19, 2017

Ruth Moody Griffith, 76, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, and suffering a stroke.

She was born October 16, 1940, in Charlotte, NC, daughter of the late Lola Rena Boyles & Robert Reece Moody.

After graduating from high school, Ruth went to work for Southern Bell and was married by the age of 20 to her one and only love, Pete Griffith. Once she and Pete started a family, Ruth dedicated her time and energies to caring for them. Along with her work as a homemaker, Ruth also volunteered in many different capacities over the years. She was an avid member of the PTA at all of the schools her children attended, serving as PTA President for several terms. She also coached softball for the West Mecklenburg Optimist Club, and served as the President of the Softball League. Ruth served as a member of numerous booster clubs, and contributed to many bake sales/fundraisers.   Although Ruth participated in many community organizations, she found the most joy sharing in the moments of her family’s life. She attended every function her husband and children were involved in.

Ruth was known for decorating her house for every holiday throughout the year, finding the most pleasure during the Christmas season.   She was also known for her cooking skills and loved having guests over for dinners and cookouts. Her Fourth of July parties were legendary with family and friends. She was the consummate hostess and life of the party. Ruth’s heart was truly overflowing with love.

Ruth was a life-long member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, and also a member of the Steele Creek OES #339.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Pete on August 6, 2017, and two brothers Robert Reece Moody Jr. “Bob” and Joseph Carson Moody “Jay/JC”. She is survived by one son, W.M. Griffith Jr. “Bill/Bubba” and his wife Suk Griffith of Belmont; one daughter, Rene' Griffith of Charlotte; one sister-in-law Bobbie Watts of Charlotte; step grandchildren Sheena, Mack, & Cora; step great-grandson Korbin; and special nieces and nephews, Robin & Heidi, David and Donna, Marian, Butch & Susan, Connie, Annette, Darlene & Pete.

A special Thank You to the doctors and nurses at the Levine Cancer Institute, Charlotte Medical Clinic, Carolina’s Medical Center & also to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, for the care they provided.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 28, 2017, at 2:00pm at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Jeff Pinkston officiating.
