Sarah Worley "Sally" Padgett

May 6, 2017

Sarah Worley Padgett, 96, of Charlotte, NC, entered eternal life on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Born on March 11,1921 in Tupelo, MS to L. Brown and Lela Worley, Sally grew up in Nashville, TN. She attended Vanderbilt University before becoming a Flight Attendant with American Airlines. She fell in love with and married a young Naval Officer, John B. Padgett, Jr.(Jack) and began a lifelong adventure, sustaining a warm and loving home for her family in numerous locations around the country, supporting Jack’s assignments in the Navy and later, in the corporate world.

Following the passing of her beloved husband in 1984, Sally returned to her southern roots, moving to The Cypress in Charlotte, NC to be near her daughter and her daughter’s family. She became an active member of the Myers Park United Methodist Church and established lasting friendships within her church family and within the community. An avid and skilled bridge player, she maintained an active social life with her friends, new and old, and travelled, individually, with her grandchildren to Africa, Alaska, Greece, Turkey, and Northern Europe.

Sally lived a devoted Christian life clearly focused on her priorities of faith, family and friends. Her faith sustained her, providing great strength and comfort as she walked life’s path, setting an example for her family and for those who knew her well. She will be sorely missed by those she loved and those who loved her, and there were many.

Sally was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack; brother, L.B. Worley; sisters, Ruby Thweatt and Wilma Costen and her dear friend William Whisnant. Sally is survived by her son, John B. Padgett, III, and wife Bobbie, of Old Lyme, CT; her daughter, Kathryn (Kitty) Bauknight and husband Dow of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren: Brian Padgett and wife Rachel, Morgan Padgett and fiancé Nathaniel Foster, Anne Worley (Bauknight) Moelter and husband Mike, John Bauknight and wife Melissa, and Lee Bauknight; and three great-grandchildren; Adelaide and Charlie Moelter and Jack Bauknight.

The family wishes to thank Nancy Shomer, Daisy McCray, Trina Williams and the compassionate staff of Hospice who cared for her with love during these last two years. A memorial service will be held on at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday June 7, 2017 at Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “The Jubilee Fund” at the Myers Park United Methodist Church PO Box 6161 Charlotte, NC. 28207 or to Hospice & Palliative Care/Charlotte 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
