Clifford Ervin "Cliff" Hemingway

Clifford Ervin Hemingway died September 22, 2016, nine days after his 89th birthday. Mr. Hemingway was the son of Maxie Clifford Hemingway and Hessie Ruth McCullough Hemingway. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1949 and remained a registered active pharmacist. Cliff served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.

Upon his return from Korea, Cliff opened his first drugstore in Gastonia, NC. During that year, he and Fran Parsons were married and went on to raise four children. He opened his first Charlotte-based drugstore in 1955, Southern Drug.

Cliff opened Stanley Lab Long Term Care Pharmacy in Charlotte in 1994 and grew it to two more facilities, one in Zebulon, NC, the other in Tampa, FL.

He joined Myers Park United Methodist Church in 1957 and was a devout member and participant in the church and the Luther Snyder and Ruth Fisher Sunday School class.

Cliff was a member of the Board of Directors for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina from 1990-2010 and served as Chairman of the Board from July 2010 to June 2011. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Wingate College in 2010.

Cliff was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Mary Frances (Fran) Parsons Hemingway, his parents, a sister, Belle, and a brother, Mac.

He is survived by his children, Clifford Ervin Hemingway, Jr. and wife, Sarah, of Hickory, NC, Linda Hemingway Inman and husband, Guy of Hillsborough, NC, Rebecca Hemingway Yager and husband, Dexter of Charlotte, NC, Mary Carolyn Hemingway of Kannapolis, NC; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and long-time companion, Ginny Tewey.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, September 26,2016 at Myers Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Howell officiating. The family will receive friends in Jubilee Hall at the church following the service. Interment will be private for the family at a later date.
