J.P. (Butch) Maurer, 93, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday January 7, 2016 at Levine & Dickson Southminster. J.P. was born July 12, 1922 in Florence, SC, son of John Adams Maurer and Janie Maurer Shipley. In 1942, J.P. moved to Charlotte and would marry his true love, Hannah Melton Maurer on June 11, 1947. He worked in the transportation industry, first as a driver for Jack's Cookies and later for Johnson Motor Lines from where he would retire. J.P. received his Transportation Degree from Central Piedmont Community College. He was a Charter Member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church. J.P. and Hannah moved their membership to Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in 2004. Uncle Butch, as he was known by his family, loved and was loved by his family. He is survived by his wife, Hannah; one sister, Toni Sutton; brother-in-law, Foy F Melton; sisters-in-law, Eloise Stillwell and her husband, Dick, and Margaret Cline Wert, and her husband, Bill; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that he cared for dearly and prayed for by name each night. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday January 2016 at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the service in Sharon Memorial Park.
