Pauline Mast Brown August 5, 1917 - March 12, 2016 CHARLOTTE - Pauline Mast Brown, age 98, died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Polly was born August 5, 1917, in Watauga County, NC, to the late James Taylor Mast and Effie Wilson Mast. She graduated from Cove Creek High School and Geyer Business College and was a long time resident of Charlotte. Polly was actively involved in her church and community and enjoyed gardening, traveling, and entertaining friends and family. Polly was a homemaker and bookkeeper, working alongside her husband Gene at Carolina Heating and Appliance Company and The Old Mill in Flat Rock. She was a faithful member of Providence United Methodist Church, and was elected as a Life Member of the PUMC Council in recognition of her years of service to the church. She was kind, gracious, and loving and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Polly was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Eugene Albright Brown; her brother Taylor Mast, and sisters, Kat Austin, Maple Greene, and Sylvia Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Rev. Jeannie Brown Bickett and her husband Ken; granddaughter Emma Bickett Lubanski and her husband, Robert; sisters, Nora Haymore and Sarah Norris; and nieces and nephews. Polly's family is grateful for the loving care she received from the dedicated staff and caregivers of Care Haven and of Novant Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Providence United Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. William Jeffries. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211, or to the church or charity of the donor's choice.
