Anthony Bruce Reid

June 26, 2016

Anthony Bruce Reid, 89, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 12, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, the eldest child of Jennie Penington Reid and Albert B. Reid.

Following his graduation from Central High School in Philadelphia, he attended Temple University, served in the United States Air Force and graduated from NC State University in the Textile Engineering School.

Bruce was married to Adele Watson Reid for 63 years. In addition to Adele, he is survived by four daughters: Jennifer Reid Kolmer and her husband, Kevin of Berwyn, PA, Holly Reid Bryant and her husband, Harry, Meredith Reid Graves and her husband, Kelly, and Adele Reid Dillon and her husband, Mark, all of Charlotte. Bruce and Adele have eleven grandchildren: Kevin Kolmer, Jr. and his wife, Kelly, Christopher Kolmer and his wife, Allison, Meredith Kern and her husband, Griffin, Brick Bryant and his wife, Elizabeth, Josh Bryant and his wife, Frances, Emily Bryant, Sarah Graves, Caroline Graves, Reid Dillon, Christopher Dillon, and Mark Dillon, Jr. They also have four great grandchildren, Tripp and Megan Kolmer, Clarke Bryant and Jack Kolmer. Bruce was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara R. Allen of Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Bruce joined LP Muller, a family-owned cotton yarn business in Philadelphia. There he started as what he described as an "office boy" in the summer of his college days and eventually became an owner of the company.

He was a former member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, but transferred his membership to First Presbyterian Church in order to be with his grandchildren on Sundays.

Bruce was a long-standing member of Charlotte Country Club, the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, SC, and The Piedmont Club. He had a passion for the South Carolina coast. He excelled in tennis and loved to talk about his golf game and his buddies whom he shared many good times with. He was the most proud of his hole-in-one on the 16th hole at DeBordieu!

He had a zest for life and a welcoming personality as he never met a stranger. With a twinkle in his eye and a bounce in his step, he brightened the moment of everyone he encountered. An immaculate dresser, a real gentleman and a devoted husband and father, that was Bruce. He had a wonderful relationship with all his 11 grands who affectionately called him "Pop Pop."

The love for his wife Adele was the priority in his life. The affection was so obvious to all of us who knew and loved him. He set such an example for all of us to follow.

Bruce and Adele have resided at Southminster in Charlotte for the past five years.

A service to celebrate the life of Bruce Reid will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the Wood Fellowship Hall following the service.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Television Ministry, 200 West Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
