Nancy Lee Kistler

February 7, 2024

CHARLOTTE – Nancy Lee Kistler of Charlotte awoke in the presence of her Savior on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 92. Nancy was born in Charlotte to George Grier Kistler and Edna Williamson Kistler on April 30, 1931. Her life of more than nine decades was wholly devoted to ministry and service to the Kingdom of God and to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Nancy grew up attending and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte. She graduated in 1949 from Harding High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Meredith College in 1953. Nancy received her Master of Divinity degree in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY in 1955.

She first served on the staff as a Youth Director at the First Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC and continued in ministry in various capacities for her entire life. Nancy was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte singing in the choir, serving on numerous committees, and teaching Sunday School until the final few weeks of her life.

Nancy served on the Board of Trustees at Gardner Webb University, served in various positions in the North Carolina Baptist Convention, Metrolina Baptist Association, and she became a staunch supporter of the North Carolina Baptist Foundation in Raleigh. She worked for many years at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and was an active supporter of the ministries of BGEA and Samaritan’s Purse.

Nancy was a world traveler, having taken trips to all 50 states, 16 Canadian Provinces, and many countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, including ten trips to the Holy Land of Israel. Nancy enjoyed telling others that she rode camels in three different countries.  She was a breast cancer survivor. As an eternal optimist, she faithfully encouraged and supported individual church staff members with her words and her prayers, and she was regarded by everyone who knew her as a rock of encouragement and faith. Nancy brought joy to all persons she encountered. Gratitude was her daily bread.

She is survived by many relatives from the Kistler, Williamson and Hoover families.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Memorials may be offered in memory of Nancy to First Baptist Church of Charlotte, 301 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
