James "Jim" Johnson Kennedy

James Johnson Kennedy, aged ninety-four, peacefully passed away on January 21st, 2024, and is now in the embrace of heaven. He is fondly remembered by his three children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as his sister and sister-in-law. His beloved wife, Barbara, had predeceased him on June 4, 2023, and they are now reunited in eternity.

Jim, the son of Jeter Johnson Kennedy and Irene Neely Kennedy, was born on January 21, 1930, in Bessemer City. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he established and operated American Gem and Gold in Charlotte, NC for many decades. 

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, Jim was laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC, in a private ceremony attended by his immediate family.

He is lovingly remembered by his family, including his son, James Kennedy (Janet) of Naples, FL; daughter, Elaine Craven (Dr. Murray) of Charlotte, NC; and daughter, Allison Williams (Billy) of Lexington, SC. Jim leaves behind his sister Betty Lawson, sister-in-law Gwendolyn Hoover (Harry), and was predeceased by his sister Nancy Owens (Eddie). His memory lives on through the lives of those he touched with his kindness and wisdom.

Jim's legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Michael Kennedy, Christine Widman (Chris), Baxter Craven, James Craven (Kristina), Daniel Craven, April Ferrone, and John Ferrone; his great-grandchildren: Charlotte Widman, Grant Widman, Aidan Widman, Carter Widman, Kennedy Craven, Theodore Craven, Mallory Frye, Thomas Ferrone, and Jackson Ferrone; as well as his step-grandchildren: Wes Williams, Lane Proctor (Logan), Macy Williams, and step-great-grandchildren Copeland Proctor and Case Proctor.

Jim's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends, a lasting tribute to a life well-lived.
