CHARLOTTE – Ruth Hoover Heberlig, age 87, died peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2023, at her home in Charlotte, NC.  Ruth was born on September 16, 1935, in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of Guy and Lizzie Hoover.

Ruth grew up with seven brothers and sisters on a farm near Newville, PA, and in 1957 she married Jack Heberlig, her high school sweetheart.  They moved their small family to Dickinson, Texas when Jack was an original member of the aeronautical engineering force for NASA.  After both children were born Ruth went back to school at The University of Houston Clear Lake and got her degree, but chose to spend her adult life as a mother and homemaker for her two children and in support of Jack's career at NASA, IBM and Lockheed Martin.

After Jack's retirement Jack and Ruth moved to Charlotte in 2003 to be near Susan and Bill.  Both families found great enjoyment living only two blocks from each other for many years. Ruth was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Charlotte where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School, Alter Guild, and a faithful volunteer at all church activities including Room in the Inn being her favorite.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Susan Ford and her husband, Bill of Charlotte, NC and Jack Heberlig and his wife, Jennifer of Brookfield, CT; granddaughter, Sarah Heberlig of New York, NY; two brothers, Wayne M. Hoover and his wife, Louise of Newville, PA and Kenneth L. Hoover of Shippensburg, PA.  Also surviving are her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins.  Ruth was predeceased by her husband Jack, and four brothers and one sister.

The family would like to thank Ruth's caregivers, Susan and Yvonne for being such an important part of our family the last year and for taking such good care of our mother.

A service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in the chapel at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 3200 Park Road, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall.
