Caroline Delaney Casey

July 10, 2023

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15.

CHARLOTTE – Caroline Delaney Casey---but she always let us know her name was "CC"---was surrounded by her beloved family and caretakers as she peacefully slipped into Jesus’ loving arms on Monday, July 10, 2023. We can only imagine the celebration in Heaven at CC’s arrival Home after so many years of suffering here on earth. What a comfort to know our CC is healed, joy-filled and perfect! We imagine her running, dancing and skipping for the first time after her long battle with metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD).

We will always remember CC for her big smile and contagious giggle. She was so full of life and playfulness. CC loved to tease and is fondly remembered as sassy and bossy, yet kind and gentle. She was an old soul, communicating observations well beyond her years. While she was still able, she loved to push the buttons of her loved ones, and often used her index finger to give instructions. She was a fighter and fought hard each and every day for her beloved family. CC suffered long and did it with patience and perseverance. In her short life of just ten years, she blessed and impacted so many people. And now her great reward has come.

We are grateful to have had the privilege of being CC’s parents and big sister, even if for ten short years. We imagine that the Lord once said, “To whom on this earth shall I entrust this little girl that I love?” That our family would be the answer to that question is humbling. If we were to view CC’s death as premature, her loss of life an event that robbed us of her company, we might suffer anguish too great to bear. Instead, we believe that our Heavenly Father marked out the boundaries of CC’s life, as He does for each of us. And so, her death was not premature; rather, it was an entering into rest at the perfect time. Of course, the time does not seem perfect to us, but we know that our perspective is incomplete. And so we rest in the fact that we were blessed to be her parents, trusting that one day we will comprehend fully.

CC is survived by her parents, Jim and Tara (Delaney) Casey; her big sister, Norah; grandparents, Virginia Casey of Winter Park, FL, Cathy Delaney of Charlotte and Dan Delaney of Charlotte; great-grandmothers, Carolyn Chabica of Irmo, SC and Ann Delaney of Owosso, MI; aunts and uncles, Erik and Cash Delaney of Greenville, SC, Ryan and Katie Delaney of Trinity, FL, Anderson and Karen Cannon of Dunwoody, GA, Chip and Virginia Brookhart of Marietta, GA. Also surviving are her ten cousins, and many sweet friends and our Team CC family. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Dennis J. Casey and many MLD friends.

We absolutely could not have helped CC with her fight if it weren’t for CC’s team of outstanding nurses, along with her physicians, therapists, and teachers for providing many years of loving care for CC and our family. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their amazing love and support throughout CC’s heroic battle.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2023, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.  We will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  The service will be livestreamed at https://stgabrielchurch.org/livefunerals for those unable to attend in person.  A reception will be held 4:30-7:00 PM at Olde Providence Racquet Club Clubhouse, 5630 Sharon View Road, Charlotte, NC.
