COL Barrett S. (Graham) Haight, JD, USA (Ret), (86), of the greater Charleston, SC area died June 19th, 2023.

He was born April 30, 1937, in Connecticut to Helen and Franklin (Graham) Haight. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dr. Barbara K. Haight, DrPH, two siblings, Donna H. Daniels and Vaughn Haight and 5 children: LTC Ret) Heidi Graham, EdD, (Greg); COL (Ret) Timothy Haight (Robin); Daniel Haight (Patricia); Kelly Leech (Matt); and Michael Graham (Joelle), all of whom served the country on active duty in the Army. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Meaghan, Mackenzie, Brian, Alex, Shea, Abby, and Ben. His eldest grandchild is expecting what would have been his first great grandchildren: twins due in August.

Burial will be at West Point Cemetery, NY. Arrangements are forthcoming.

COL Haight, a 1959 graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, served 23 years on active duty with the Signal Corps and The Judge Advocate General’s Corps, US Army culminating as Staff Judge Advocate, Fort Jackson, SC. He was a rated Army Aviator and earned a Commercial Pilot rating. He received multiple awards for service in the Vietnam combat zone and during peacetime. He retired in 1999 from The Citadel Development Foundation as its first Director of Estate Planning. During his tenure he was a charter member and VP of the SC Deferred Giving Council, charter member of the Charleston Deferred Giving Council, charter member and contributing editor of the National Deferred Giving Journal, and a member of the International Association of Financial Planning. He retired as a member of the CT and SC Bars. In 1972 he was selected as an Outstanding Young Man In America and later was entered in several editions of Who’s Who In the South. He served twice on the Charleston Kiwanis Club Board of Directors and on the Board of the SC Nurses Foundation. COL Haight was a Regional Representative for the USMA Class of 1959 and he served on the West Point Field Force for the SE Region. His interests over the years included coaching each of his children in multiple sports and enjoying tennis and golf with his friends at Snee Farm Country Club. Barrett was instrumental in organizing a baseball room dedicated to the unique history of Army Baseball at the Thayer Hotel on the grounds of USMA.

He received a Juris Doctor degree from the Dickinson School of Law (Penn State) where he was on the Board of Editors for the Dickinson Law Review and inducted into the DSL Honor Society. He also earned a Masters of Law (LLM) from the University of Missouri. He taught Constitutional, Criminal, and Business law as an Associate Professor of Law, usma; Chief Instructor at the Command and General Staff College; and an adjunct on the faculties of SW Missouri University, USC, and MUSC College of Nursing.
