Nancy Allen Guthery passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016 in the Short-Term Rehab Wing of Sharon Towers, while recovering from a broken hip. She was born Nancy Powell Allen in Cramerton on March 22, 1935 to Mary Powell Allen and Dr. Mitchell Hurst Allen.

After spending her first 11 years in Cramerton, NC, she moved with her family to Spartanburg, SC. Nancy attended Converse College and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UNC-Chapel Hill. During her time at UNC-Chapel Hill, she married the love of her life, Paul B. Guthery, Jr.

Nancy loved music, arts, and especially playing the piano. During her longtime membership at the Junior League of Charlotte, she tutored elementary school children. She also taught Sunday School at Myers Park United Methodist Church, for many years and was a member of the Ownbey Class with her husband, Paul, and later the Ruth Fisher Class. Nancy's greatest joys were her husband, children, and grandchildren. She delighted in worshipping the Lord, and praying for all those around her. Following her husband's death, Nancy moved to Carmel Place Independent Living Center, where she made many friends, who were very supportive of her during her time at Sharon Towers and in the hospital.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 60 years, Paul, who died in December 2015. She is survived by her son, Paul B. Guthery, III, and his wife, Cindy of Raleigh, her daughter Mary Wallace, and her husband, Fr. John (Eric) of Charlotte, her grandchildren Cameron Lee Guthery and Laura Elizabeth Wallace, her sister Jane Allen Smith of Chapel Hill, NC, her brother Dr. Mitchell (Mitch) H. Allen, Jr, and wife Sarah of Spartanburg, SC, and sister-in-law Connie Daniel Guthery.

A memorial service to honor Nancy will be held at Myers Park United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016. The family will receive friends in Jubilee Hall following the service. Interment will be private.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Jubilee Plus Fund at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.
