Mrs. Patricia J. Voswinkel, 83, died early Wednesday morning, Aug 10, 2016, at Novant Presbyterian Hospital. Pat was born in New York City in 1932, daughter of late Dr. Harry Rothman and Eileen Rothman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gael Recht and her brother in-law, Dr. John Recht of New York. Pat was a retired Registered Nurse. She returned to school later in life earning her nursing degree in 1985. A compassionate caregiver, she retired from Sharon Towers only a few years ago.

Prior to nursing school, Pat was a loving and nurturing stay at home mother and courageous activist for constitutional rights who realized at an early age people need to be vigilant to protect freedom of thought and inquiry. On several occasions she successfully asserted her fundamental right to petition the government for redress of grievances challenging local governmental entities for constitutional violations. She also enjoyed writing op-ed pieces in the newspaper on a variety of subjects with a particular interest in organized religion and freedom from religion.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years and three sons as follows: Bertold J. Voswinkel Sr (retired), Patrick Voswinkel, MD of Atlanta, Bert Voswinkel Jr. a local chiropractor, and Nick Voswinkel a nurse and lawyer in Seattle. She is also survived by four lovely grandchildren and her niece Aristine Recht of New York. Pat was an animal lover, donating considerable resources to ensure compassionate care of and safe shelter for homeless animals. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte NC 28203. Funeral Services will be private.
